Shanes Jukebox - Me or Him by Roger Waters and Theres No Way Out - TopicsExpress

Shanes Jukebox - Me or Him by Roger Waters and Theres No Way Out of Here by David Gilmour. More than most bands, Pink Floyd were the direct descendants of the Beatles, and Syd Barretts tragic downfall aside, the similarities were striking. Lennon (the intellectual activist), McCartney (the melody master), and Harrison (the quiet genius) had close counterparts in Roger Waters, David Gilmour, and Rick Wright respectively. Both bands were fronted by two yin/yang Egos who frequently locked horns over the creative direction of the music. Both bands suffered very nasty public break-ups after which their efforts going forward - some would argue - were mostly pale reflections of their former glory. Both bands....had a drummer? *snark* Sorry Ringo and Nick. ;) Without Gilmours structured, multi-talented musicianship and strong vocals, Rogers songs tend to devolve into self-indulgent, incoherent stories about topics of weak interest to few but himself. Without Waters undeniable gift for turning a sharp phrase and composing ambitious epics, Davids songs are often bland and forgettable (albeit pleasant enough) tripe... ...Except for these two tracks! Twist ending! :-D While I believe these selections still illustrate the larger point, they are very good compositions in their own right; shining moments of reclaimed glory, in my opinion. Enjoy and tell me, which solo style do you like more, Rogers or Davids? https://youtube/watch?v=HlrW3N7mCs8
