Shanghai Tower: Now worlds 2nd tallest skyscraper! With the final steel beam placed on top of #Shanghai Towers crown structure on Sunday, the worlds second-tallest #skyscraper reached its planned height of 632 meters. Shanghai Tower is located in the center of the Lujiazui financial hub in the Pudong New Area, Shanghai. The main building came into operation in 2008, and is scheduled to fully open in 2015. It will eventually include four underground stories. The Shanghai Tower, Jin Mao Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center will all also be linked by underground passages leading to Metro stations. The new landmark building will include offices, commercial space, a five-star hotel, exhibition and conference halls and recreational facilities. Gao Zhenfeng, deputy chief engineer with the Shanghai Tower, said that an elevator that travels at 18 meters per second will take visitors to the 118th floor in 30 seconds. Now that its finished, the Shanghai Tower firmly takes its place among the tallest buildings in the world.
