Sharing a momentary delight - Mr Milliband used all of his 6 PMQ - TopicsExpress

Sharing a momentary delight - Mr Milliband used all of his 6 PMQ questions on one topic (Coulson) here is the final one, with Michael Deacons comments... “There is now a very important question,” he blurted, “which the whole country will want an answer to, about whether Sir Gus O’Donnell or senior civil servants raised concerns…” Frankly, the Speaker should have stopped him there. “Order,” the Speaker should have sighed. “Mr Miliband. You have made a habit in this House of accusing fellow Members of being ‘out of touch’ with the public. I refer you to the statement you have just made, in which with a straight face you asserted that ‘the whole country’ will ‘want an answer’ to a question about Sir Gus O’Donnell. I should be obliged if you could inform the House what percentage of voters you believe have ever even heard of Sir Gus O’Donnell, let alone what percentage you believe could identify him as Cabinet Secretary 2005-11. I should be further obliged if you could supply evidence to support your claim that a question about the Cabinet Secretary 2005-11 is of urgent fascination to ‘the whole country’, the implication being that, at this very moment, public houses, hairdressing salons and school playgrounds across the land are alive with excited speculation as to what Sir Gus O’Donnell knew or didn’t know about Mr Coulson’s appointment. Observers may argue that, if you truly believe ‘the whole country’ is talking about this rather than, for example, Luis Suarez, you inhabit an even more fantastical dream world than previously suspected.” The Speaker didn’t say any of that, however, which was unusually generous of him.
