Sharing with you my story, my birth place: China, Canton Province, Zhong Shan District, Liao Hao Village, my birth place. OMG, I remember the childhood days enjoying afternoon naps under this 400 historic tree and gathering with other kids to listen to old tales told by the elders. At night, I would run fast home with my eyes closed from my aunts home nearby in fear of the tree spirits would not capture me. During endless evenings, we would run around all the narrow alleys playing capture the flags (actually branches since we were so poor we didnt own flags). Throughout the year, we roamed around the village picking olives and playing marble games with the olive pits we found, climbing lee chee nut trees eating the fresh sweet fruit hanging by the tip. I remember one time I fell off the tree when the fruit moth pee in my eyes before I could finish chewing the flesh off the lee chee fruit. Oh, the fresh sugar canes, rice paddies, dragon eye fruits and all the blessings of nature would never be replaced with an Apple iPad of today. The temple at the end has my family name Ko engraved from our familys sponsorship to keep the ancient relics for the future generations. Unfortunately, the ancient village tree that was declared 1 of 100 historic tree monument in China has now fell and much of the wells my parents fetch water for our livelihood has been contaminated by the foreign factories which invaded this once pristine village. In just 30 years, one generation, so much can change! I feel blessed to have lived the first 8 years of my live in such a village with no running water, 2 hours of electricity per day, and out houses that made the best compost...and a childs worst time out place. lol.--Sheila Xueya Ko youtu.be/hgjDULBp4VE
