Shelter Puppies is a foster based rescue. We have a great group of fosters and are always looking for more. Its recently come to my attention that some people wont foster because of some of our rules. 1) Crate training 2) Puppies are not to sleep in bed bed with you or allowed on furniture. Crate training is not only helpful with potty training but it is also a way to keep your puppy safe when your not able to be with them. Puppies are curious and will chew just about anything if not watched. A electrical wire can ruin a puppies life in 30 seconds. The reason for no furniture is because these puppies will be going into new forever homes and not everyone allows their dogs on the furniture. (What? Thats crazy talk.) Usually if a behavioral issue arises its because of the pup or dog is allowed to do what ever he/she wants. After I take a puppy to their new forever home and the new family says they will be allowed on the furniture I explain the reason behind us not allowing them. If the new family allows the pup on furniture its easier to invite a dog onto furniture than to break the habit once it has been already started. Sleeping in bed is also something we do not allow in foster homes. These are 8 week old puppies and they will use your queen size bed as a toilet. We have a professional dog trainer on board with us and we have discussed these things all at length. We have had families who are very glad we train the pups to stay off of furniture and also have had many families who say that its not s problem if they get on the furnitire. We look at the big picture and see that a well behaved socialized obedient spayed/neutered puppy will ALMOST never been returned to a shelter or pound. If you adopted a puppy from us please comment on how the difference of having a trained puppy has helped you. Thanks for supporting Shelter Puppies. Randy
