Sheriff Stan Sniff made an historic promotion for the Riverside County Sheriffs Dept this early Monday morning, Nov 3rd, in Riverside. In front of a standing-room-only crowd of family, friends and coworkers in Sheriffs Administration, Correctional Chief Deputy Jerry Gutierrez was appointed as an Assistant Sheriff over all of our Corrections Divisions, replacing Assistant Sheriff Steve Thetford who retires later this month. Jerry is the very first to rise up thru our Correctional Deputy career series to become an Assistant Sheriff in the 121-year history of our dept. Jerry has worked in nearly every correctional job, held statewide leadership roles in corrections, oversaw our agencys response to the AB 109 Realignment challenges, and his jail expertise is frequently sought out by other agencies all across our state. He is a 25-year veteran of the Riverside County Sheriffs Dept, moving up through the ranks, and holds both B.A. and M.A. degrees in keeping with our agencys commitment to furthering our professionalism through formal education. This morning for this promotion, we were very honored to have San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon and his senior leaders present, as well as our own Riverside County Probation Chief, Mark Hake, and his senior leadership. Congratulations Assistant Sheriff Jerry Gutierrez!
