Short film idea. I wrote this on the fly after a dream, so it could probably use some work but I think the idea is solid enough. A young man parks in the parking garage at the bottom of a tall building. A pretty young woman is on her way down from on top of the tall building. The connecting elevator is out of order. Both, being young and enthusiastic, shrug and start up and down the same staircase. Its one of those metal staircases that make a sharp ringing noise as you step on it. Its in one of those enclosed stairwells that traps all sound. Their footsteps synchronize as they get closer. At the same time, they both stop. Curious, the young woman lifts one foot and taps on a step twice. From below comes a matching echo. They do a tap dance on the stairs which amuses them both greatly and then they stop (at the same time.) Awkward silence as they both realize theyre going to pass. Both are apprehensive about meeting the other person, not sure of warm reception or embarrassment for childish behaviour. Very slowly, they resume their respective climbs. The young man takes a step. The young woman takes a step. Step, step. Bang, boom. Step, step, step, step. Stepstepsstepstep--theyre running now, exciting. Their steps sound like rain in the stairwell and then they both hit the same landing at the same time, run into each other, and bounce back against the wall. They laugh again, apologize for awkwardness, and explain their respective missions. The young man is going up. The young woman is going down. They say their goodbyes, start walking away. The young man steps up. The young woman steps down. Step. Step. They get slower and slower. They stop. They young man makes a decision, he turns and starts going down. At the same time the young woman starts going back up. They meet on the same landing again, running into each other again. The young woman drops her handback, the young man picks it up for her. They both explain--they forgot something in the other direction. They start to leave again, back hesitating towards they stairs. This time the girl makes a decision. She waves it off, she can get it tomorrow. The young man holds out his hand. Shyly she takes it--and they walk down the stairs together.
