Shots fired at PPP general secretary By Times of India CHANDIGARH: Two masked gunmen on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire at Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) general secretary Yadwinder Singh Buttar at the inner market of Sector 8 on Sunday night. Buttar was attacked when he was about to return home in Sector 21 after buying snacks from an eatery along with his driver Subhash Rana in his car around 10.30 pm. Police recovered three empty bullet shells. One of the bullets damaged his Toyota Etios. Buttar said he suspected the hand of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sewa Singh Sekhwan, DIG Alok Nath Angra and Ripjit Singh, a resident of Sector 10, behind the shooting. Buttar had been given Punjab Police protection after he lodged a criminal complaint against Sekhwan and Angra in a Gurdaspur court a few years ago. In his complaint to the UT police, Buttar said, I along with my driver had come to Sector 8 market after dropping my two Punjab Police gunmen at their rented accommodation in Kansal village. After purchasing snacks as I headed towards my house, two masked motorcyclists appeared and one of them fired at us. They later sped away. Buttar, who claimed to have shifted from his native village in Gurdaspur to Chandigarh apprehending threats from the former Punjab education minister and the police official, said, Initially, the police ruled out the possibility of firing, suggesting some miscreants had burst crackers. But the police turned its line of thinking when three empty shells were recovered from the spot. Inspector Harjeet Kaur, station house officer, Sector 3 police station, said The bullets appeared to have been fired from a 7.62 bore pistol, which was similar to a .9mm pistol. But Buttar failed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle, Kaur added. PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE
