Shout out to Monis Khan for tearing up the interwebs with the first ever episode of his very own show!!!!! And to activist Keane Bhatt for rightfully connecting events in Ferguson not only to the militarization of the police, but to the hegemonic military industrial complex itself: We claim to be a democracy but at the same time the liberal establishment is absolutely at home with the domination of the rest of the world and the maintenance of a US military imperial project. And I think It comes back to that long-term conundrum: You can have a republic or you can have an empire but you cant have both. The way that the most sociopathic elements of a military empire end up bleeding into our domestic life, the way the military industrial complex puts a veto on the public will for a greater investment at home for social uplift, what MLK routinely decried as the madness of militarism. This is seeping into places as far-strewn as ferguson, in communities that have increasingly become war zones.
