Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora, I know we are all feeling a bit - TopicsExpress

Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora, I know we are all feeling a bit downcast but we have to dig deep and find a way to do something.I also know we are overwhelmed with the proliferation of emerging charities and have trust issues. Believe me we are all thinking the same thing but we need to collectively change the way assess charities. Demand more information etc...... I I woudl like to bring to your attention to 2 worthy causes hosting events in the UK this month. A lot of people are trying to raise funds to substantially affect the scale of community support needed and we can all help in our own big or small way. This Sunday, the 30th of August 2014, I know A Scholars is having a little fundraising gig at Burgess Park(fun and games). Alim Kamara is a community activist and he is focused on empowering children academically and mentally. In Sierra Leone, he works with poor children that are hungry to study and to learn. In the UK he works alongside the Metropolitan police and various social mobilization initiatives as a motivational speaker in failing schools. This man has an impressive academic background and could easily secure a handsome salary in the city but he chose to serve his community by setting up A Scholars. Let us serve through him. Next weekend 14th September, I know Melqosh Mission International is determined to raise funds for its beneficiaries. So far this charity has proved to be transparent and we have measured progress through the recent launch of a fully functioning learning hub for the physically disadvantaged in the heart of Freetown, along with its seasonal cook out and scholarship projects. Naturally as a growing charity it wants to do more, particularly with the current health crisis in Sierra Leone . So please support Melqosh by attending its Ball next week so it can raise funds for supporting its beneficiaries at this difficult time. Get dressed up for a purpose , knowing that your money will go towards something positive. If you feel a little strained financially , make a small donation..... it is still something. The Founding Member Faith Okrafor Smart is a single mum with academic and professional qualifications to earn a handsome salary. She also chose to serve her community. Let us serve through her. Be the change you want to see in the world.
