Sifaka infant update: On Friday, the Sacramento Zoo’s male infant sifaka (born January 5th), was transferred from his exhibit to the Murray E. Fowler Veterinary Hospital Intensive Care Unit where he is being treated for pneumonia. Shortly after his birth zookeepers and veterinarians documented that he was not gaining enough weight. After much discussion they began supplemental feedings which have helped him gain weight. The infant will continue to be fed, cared for and closely monitored by veterinarians and zookeepers in the hospital. We will keep you upated on his progress.
