Simon the Sorcerer’s Power Hunt Part 1! Canker Worms Eating the 21st Century Church Series Prepared by Pastor Charles Chanda; Pretoria, South Africa! Acts 8:18-20 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, 19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. 20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. The church is obsessed with the search for miracles and unfortunately ministers are doing all they can to get power. The gospel of today is the prosperity gospel and more and more churches are opening up not to preach the Bible gospel but a worldly gospel. Preaches are telling people that they must stop suffering as the God we serve sugars people’s tea and butters people’s bread. This kind of gospel that promises heaven on earth and misses out on cross bearing is not from Christ. SIMON WAS MOTIVATED BY SIGHT! “And when Simon saw…” Simon was not called by God to do what he wanted but just saw and developed interest. This is very dangerous. Many young preachers have joined the spiritual labour force as they have seen how the Tele-evangelists are flying from one country to another and how prospered they have become because of gospel work. It’s the insentives we are seeing in others that are motivating many to start churches. This is wrong and you will now understand why the church is dying. Look at Christ and compare with what has motivated you into gospel work! Matthew 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Matthew 14:14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick Mark 1:41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. Mark 6:34 And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things. Do you really care of the lost and their condition or you just want their money? Why are you a pastor? Why did you start a church? These are heart searching questions you will need to answer faithfully my fellow minister. If there was no Malachi 3:8 and Luke 6:38 in the Bible would you have considered preaching? Look at David and compare his dedication to God with yours! 2 Samuel 24:24 And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 2 Corinthians 12:15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.
