Sivarraajh Chandran MIC National Youth leader Press Statement 28/10/2014 We strongly feel that Datuk Ibrahim Ali has committed sedition We welcome and strongly support the statement made by Khairy Jamaluddin, Umno youth national leader, that Ibrahim Ali has committed sedition when he said Malay Bibles should be burned. If anything Ibrahim Ali has made a clear sedition statement. There can be no doubt that to say burnt the Malay Bibles has all the elements of sedition in words, intentions and deeds. I am surprised that the Attorney General can come out and say openly that there is no element of sedition in Ibrahim Ali’s now famous speech. MIC Youth is together with Khairy Jamaluddin who said yesterday that there is sedition in Ibrahim Ali’s speech. Like him, we don’t agree with the Attorney General. It is simply sedition because he said to burn the Malay Bibles, the holy book of another religion. That is sedition, if anything. That statement will cause ill will between races and religions and will lead to dissatisfaction of some people. We also have made a stand on this issue, and for us Ibrahim Ali should be charged with sedition. We don’t agree with the Attorney General classification that NO sedition has been committed. However, it’s the Attorney General opinions that counts whether a person is charged or not. He is the sole authority to decide on such matters. If anyone asks us whether Ibrahim Ali has committed sedition and must to be charged, we would readily say, he has committed sedition for saying, burn the Malay Bibles. This is MIC Youth’s personal opinion and we beg to differ with the Attorney General on this matter. We stand firm in our resolve that Ibrahim Ali has committed sedition when he said that Malay Bibles should be burned. Ends
