Six Business Lessons My Father Taught Me. By Mubita C. Nawa My father and my mother are my number one inspirations. 1. Do the impossible now. The miracle take a little longer. He always said that. The impossible we do at once but the miracles we take a little longer. That mantra alone made me believe from a young age that I could do anything including walking on water. 2. Always carry tools. If it was not the shifting spanner it was a long nose clipper. My four year old daughter Kinayo (who is my duplicate) has given me a new name Mr fixer man. I always carry a tool on me. From a razor to a swiss army knife. 3. People pay the bills not money. I believe in people so much it hurts. I would rather have no money but have people. Even the businesses that have brought me trouble in the past were as a result of my love for people. My dad was a pure people person. He was so beloved. 4. Dont worry about laughter. He was never worried about status. He would jump on a train to Harare to bring hardware. He would buy second hand Land Rovers from the auction sale and he cared little what others said. In 1987 we moved from Chelstone to Kaunda Square while he built his farm house in Barlaston park. By 1989 we were in the new house. Those who laughed at us, well lets just say dont worry about them. They were still at the same place were they were when laughing at us for two years. We werent. We moved on. People who laugh at the efforts of others are often the stagnates in society. 5. Sale any and everything you can. We had chickens (broilers and layers, village and non village, lol), we sold cooking oil, salt, second hand anything. My dad was a hustler. 6. God and family first. He was always home by 5:30pm everyday (I cant do that there is too much traffic in Lusaka now. Lol) unless when away. He loved my mom and he loved us too. He took us to church every Sunday. We saw God as the center of his life and business. May God bless my late dad Mr. Charles Pumulo Nawa who passed on February 20th 1994 at age 45 and my late mom Mrs. Patricia Mukumbuta Nawa who passed on on August 31st 2005 at age 52. All that I am and all that I ever hope to be I owe it to my angel mother. Abraham Lincoln
