Slain Zaria Islamic cleric, wife, son buried The remains of the slain Zaria-based Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Mohammed Awwal-Adam, also known as, Albany, were on Sunday laid to rest at Dambo graveyard, Jos road, Zaria in Kaduna State. Albany, his son, Abdallah, and his wife were trailed and shot by yet-to-be identified gunmen on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, headed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has condemned the killing of the cleric while expressing fears that cleric were now target of assassinations as was the case in Kano and Sokoto. It was gathered that the cleric and members of his family were trailed by the unknown assassins from a school, Markaz, located along Maje Road in Tudun Wada, Zaria, after closing from the school between 9.30 and 10pm on Saturday night. It was also learnt that the deceased, his wife and son were shot few meters away from their residence. Family source said the cleric and others involved in the attack were rushed to St Luke’s Anglican Hospital, Wasasa also in Zaria where they later died. After funeral prayer led by Malam Musa Maikwano-Gusau, at deceased residence located at Gaskiya layout in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, interment took place at Dambo graveyard, Jos road, in Zaria. Speaking shortly after the funeral prayer, a Senator representing Kaduna North at the National Assembly, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, described the assassination of the cleric as “shocking”. Makarfi, a former governor of the state, said the death of the cleric had created a vacuum that couldn’t be filled amongst the Muslims in the state and the country at large.
