Smoke ALERT to motorists travelling on the Great Northern Highway 15 kilometres north of Halls Creek in the Shire of Halls Creek ALERT LEVEL: A smoke alert remains in place for people travelling along Great Northern Highway 15 kilometres north of Halls Creek to Warmun in the Shire of Halls Creek. The fire is burning along the eastern side of Great Northern Highway. There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area. DFES is warning motorists travelling along Great Northern Highway to take extreme caution when driving through smoke and areas of low visibility. WHAT TO DO: • Be extremely careful when driving through the area. • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly. • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears. • If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. ROAD CLOSURES: No roads are closed. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: The bushfire is moving slowly along the Great Northern Highway. WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: The Shire of Halls Creek is monitoring the fire. This incident is a flare up from a previous bushfire that was reported on 30 August. AGENCY RESPONSIBLE: The Shire of Halls Creek is managing the fire.
