So I brought a Firefox OS phone, coz, its only 40 quid and I - TopicsExpress

So I brought a Firefox OS phone, coz, its only 40 quid and I wanted to checkout Firefox OS anyway, and having a backup phone is always handy. Its all right really. Came with the frankly no-longer-required micro-usb cable and charger plug, some earphones, a removeable battery. Has a memory-card slot which is something my Google Nexus dont have. Its light and feels as cheap as it is. Most of the stuff I do with my phone it seems to handle with no trouble at all. Its got an audio-player, maps is HERE Maps which located me in seconds and gave me directions to the nearest pub and cashpoint without trouble. Also directions to a LONG way away on public transport. Cameras a bit rubbish, but thats gonna be the case on a 40 quid phone and isnt the fault of the OS at all of course. Theres an ebook reader available, but while itll let you add your epubs from your memory card, there aint no Kindle app or Google Books or whatever of course, which means none of those Digitally Restricted books will work (unless you rip em on your computer I guess). Its default desktop has a bunch of smart collections. Hit the games collection, for instance, and itll show you all your installed games then under that loads of web bookmarked games appear. The social contains facebook and twitter and also reddit and many more. Grooveshark was working from one of those links right away. Its weird having a browser-based phone with no back button most of the time, and Id miss things like the AnyMemo spaced-repetition flash-card system Ive been using (though no doubt could knock up an app for that pretty quickly, it all being Javascript and Web tech). So yeah, the camera being a bit rubbish and the fact DRM exists so you cant just read your damned books anywhere you like without barely-legal faffing are the biggest problems. The Free-Open-Sourceness of it is nice though. Mozilla are doing interesting things, will continue to watch with interest. A good burner-phone perhaps. Though not easily snapped in half like the cheap flip-phones ;) Its NOT as good as an iPhone6, but then its less than 10% of the price, it is probably better than 10% of an iPhone.
