So, I had originally set my Fatboy up tubeless using Gorilla Tape, - TopicsExpress

So, I had originally set my Fatboy up tubeless using Gorilla Tape, since this is the way I had done it on multiple bikes. A couple months ago I read this post, claiming .57 pounds of weight savings per wheel (.75 pounds for Gorilla - .18 pounds for Scotch). Yesterday I started the process of switching from Gorilla Tape to Scotch Tough Transparent Duct Tape, excited about the prospect of dropping half a pound per wheel. I weighed the wheel once I had removed the tire and wiped down the tape. I reweighed once I had removed the Gorilla Tape and taped the wheel with Scotch. I followed the method for laying the Scotch tape down as described in the referenced site. My results were a weight savings of 1-2 ounces per wheel (I use a fish scale that measures in pounds and ounces, one wheel weighed 1 ounce less, the other weighed 2). Converted to pounds that is at most .125 pounds of weight saving. Im not sure why my results were drastically different, perhaps I used much less Gorilla Tape in my original setup (I used one layer of wide down the middle and one layer of narrow on each side). That being said I did find that the sealant had crept under the seams in a few spots, so hopefully the Scotch is an improvement in that regard. However I have never had a rim setup tubeless with Gorilla Tape fail long term. If anyone else switches from Gorilla to Scotch I would be interested to see their results, and whether they are closer to mine or those of this article.
