So I just learned how to change face plates on our cable outlets - TopicsExpress

So I just learned how to change face plates on our cable outlets (which turned out to be astonishingly simple). Encouraged by this success, I decided to change the face plates on the phone jacks (I realize those of you without landlines will have no clue what Im talking about). I discovered this would involve rewiring the jacks. I went online for instructions, and they were perfectly logical -- simply match the colors of the wires with the colors of the terminals on the backs of the new plates. Except that the terminals were red, green, yellow and black, and the wires were blue, orange, white with a blue stripe, and white with an orange stripe. Back to the internet, and I found the conversion chart (blue=red, orange=yellow, white/blue=green, white/orange=black), and soon had the jacks successfully rewired. In the process, I think I discovered that our house is set up for two lines (as in, General, the Pentagon is on line two.) Ive got to figure out how this works, if only so that, in the middle of a phone call, I can interrupt and say, Excuse me, but Ive got the Pentagon on line two.
