So, I was teaching a class of 7th graders today about personal branding and how critical it is in a knowledge-based global economy. The takeaway of this particular lesson was the Law of Simplicity. (Then we move towards using media to build your brand, aka cyber-bullying prevention via Civil Schools) While describing this scene from the movie City Slickers to the students, (I did not show it for obvious reasons) I asked how many of them had heard of the movie. I figured only a couple of them had...which it turned out only one student was familiar with it. He enthusiastically proclaimed, My parents have that movie! to which I responded, Awesome, do they have it on VHS? A quiet hush over took the room and I was left with a bunch of confused looks until one kid bravely asked, What do you mean V-H-S? Ahhhh...so that is what old and irrelevant feels like.
