So for the past 7 weeks or so, Ive stepped waaayyyy out on faith and decided to run for school board in my hometown Milpitas California. My core group of friends from elementary school are still above ground and doing what they can to help. The teachers that educated me are proud (some saw it coming, some didnt). My mom gets to see her son say thanks in a different way. My dad, Uncle Joe, Aunt Mickey, and both sets of grandparents (Papa Joe, Grandma Eerie, Grandpa Ulysses, Grandma Lucille), a long list of Sunnyhills legends (Mr. Ellison, Mr. Brown, Mama Dixon, Mr. Wilson, Kennon Brothers, Keith Hadnot, Ms Ruby, Don Scott…..) my neighbors son Noah and so many others whose lives touched me get to look down from heaven and talk to the angels about whats going on. As a 41 year resident, this town has done so much for me, I had to try to give it back something else while Im still above ground. I know Im not promised tomorrow. My family has been very supportive in ways Ive been able to see and ways I have not. My kids are learning about democracy first hand, the good, the bad and the interesting. My wife doesnt know how much I miss her in all of this, but when it is done.... she will! My sister, who is well connected got me off to a great start. I have a great team of people who have been supporting, encouraging and nurturing me (Melissa and Jason, Jackie, Nora, David, Donnie, Jon, Marshall, Emily, Kevin, Tony T, the WCB Karate Crew) GA, MG, MM, JW and more. Bill Foulk thank you for sharing with me that school board campaigning is about what you can do – not about what others can’t or who they arent. By knocking on doors Ive connected with people who have seen my signs around the town and lived her 50+ years. Ive reconnected with people who use to live in Milpitas who said theyd vote for me if they could, who promised to reach out to folks they still know in the town. All good stuff. By stepping out on faith, what Ive seen most are the words of the God come to life right before my eyes. Being a candidate for public office is a humbling experience because at the end of it all, it’s just you and the journey. You have to persevere through the setbacks, mistakes, lack of knowledge, critics and public scrutiny. What I am most grateful for are all the intercessory prayers that have been said. Im not quite sure how God works it out, but I know the prayers of others for my safety, health, continued integrity and family keep me pushing forward. I have an entirely new lens from which to view politics and political candidates. I want to be on the Milpitas School Board. Voting happens November 4, 2014 – The Future Is Now.
