So happy to hear that my mom stood for the first time since Easter!! She was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus two weeks ago. For her, the result of brain cancer (tumour is gone, very happy to say - a miracle for sure). As the tumour disappeared she started to showed signs of dementia, Alzheimers and Parkinsons but it came on so fast and with no explanation. So proud of my dad for pushing the medical system - he has been my moms greatest advocate. They did a lumbar drain 10 days ago and the change is slowly but surely happening. We dont know how well shell be in the end - her brain/body has taken such a beating, but for her to stand and her voice to be strong is miracle number 2. Our fingers are crossed and we take one day at a time, but for today, we have big smiles again :) I wanted to share this update for two reasons 1. because several know my moms story and I wanted to thank you for the ongoing support and to update you, and 2. and most important, because I was shocked to read that normal pressure hydrocephalus is known to be misdiagnosed as dementia, Alzheimers and Parkinsons in people in their 60s and 70s - if those people were able to be diagnosed properly, their symptoms can be managed and they could live well and long lives.
