So... having finally watched the full recordings of the high level officials discussing starting a war with Syria, I have to admit it is being a bit sensationalized. Yes, they are discussing going to war, but thats just a typical strategy session that would happen between high officials in any country... I mean for goodness sakes, I was watching a documentary the other day about the US governments strategy in case of an alien attack... people discuss hypothetical all the time. As for the most controversial statement, our spy chief saying hell send four men over and have them fire some missiles at Turkey, he was saying that hypothetically too... as in, if I wanted to start a war I could send four men... The thing that is most worrisome about these latest leaks is that it seems the foreign minister, the undersecretary of foreign affairs, and the national intelligence chief all WANT to start a war (the deputy chief of general staff is also there, but he seems more neutral), except in typical Turkish fashion, nobody wants to be the champion of that cause and be the one responsible for having started the war... This recording is troubling for a couple reasons... yes, a Turks desire to avoid being the one responsible for bad calls is paramount, and so we probably wont go to war, but you can always circumvent that stalemate by finding some scapegoat... secondly, there is also a part where they talk about how the US has already agreed to attack Syria with them a hundred times already. If the US has already decided it wants to attack Syria, but cant because of domestic concerns, its very unlikely that it will stand in the way if Turkey decides to do so... and quite frankly, America was our best bet of shooting this bad idea down before it ever took off... sigh, if only the EU werent a complete joke... Oh... and in the end, even IF the recording doesnt deserve as much hysteria as it is currently getting... the fact that they DID just shut down the whole of YouTube just to curb its spread is cause for concern enough... its like they want to stoke panic even more... way to politick guys...
