So here we go, Ive heard it straight from the horses mouth - TopicsExpress

So here we go, Ive heard it straight from the horses mouth today... As some of you may know Im up for selection for the Dorset and Wilts County Recurve Archery team, plus Im supposed to be getting my national ranking. So far I have begged, pleaded, emailed and run in circles to trying to get the 2 days off I need to get to the performance selections. Today the DOM was back in the office after his lovely holiday and his words to me were this... you can have the Saturday if you find someone to cover it. Me: I have managed to get it covered. DOM: so you have given up one of your Saturdays and found someone to swap with. Me: No someone who is not working has agreed to come in and Im going to have to take unpaid. DOM: oh no no no, you cant do that. Me: well what am I supposed to do then? Anyway this went on for a bit, and I felt to be honest by this point he was deliberately being obstructive to sorting the situation out. Then he sighted the fact we have 27 walks not covered in our office and the USO is failing. But I eventually seemed to get to the bottom of his problem with me, and why he keeps moving the goal posts, and it turns out because I have a 11 month old daughter who has been ill a couple of times in the last few month, and who has been unable to attend nursery, which in turn has meant I have had to take unpaid time off, (which is my statutory right as a parent of a child under five, I believe its 18 weeks unpaid allowed to cover exactly these problems as they come up). He basically tried to make out I was getting special treatment, to which I told him no more than anyone else who has children and that its my statutory right written in British employment law and that its not even up to royal mail! I explained that it might be an inconvenience to him, but to me its a nightmare, I still have to pay the £70 a day nursery fee even though she isnt in nursery and on top I lose a full days pay too, so its not like its a choice I want to have to make or take lightly. Its not even like I can help my daughter being ill! Plus he even had the cheek to suggest my other half took the day off instead. Which would make even less financial sense as my partner earns more than me in her job, so its down to damage control basically when my daughter is ill. What annoyed me most though is that he lied an said he might have been a bit more accepting of my situation if I hadnt already had all these days off already...? A) No you wouldnt as apparently you have 27 walks to cover, and B) seriously!!! All these days off that Ive had!!? I feel like its open season now on parents in my depot now, or its just me hes holding a grudge against anyway, either way its become apparent Im being singled out, blackmailed, coerced, intimidated, guilt tripped, harassed and prejudiced for things which are not within my control, but thats not going to stop them pointing the finger anyway apparently. three words WORK, LIFE, BALANCE!!!
