So here we go its time for another #MidCardMonday and this week I have decided for WWE Legend Hacksaw Jim Duggan - WWE Universe. James Edward Jim Duggan, Jr. (born January 14, 1954), better known by his ring name Hacksaw Jim Duggan, is an American professional wrestler. He is signed with World Wrestling Entertainment in a Legends contract. His best-known character is that of an American patriot, which sees him use a 2x4 length of wood as a weapon, the battle cry Hooo! and the U-S-A! cheer. In the WWF, Duggan was the winner of the first ever Royal Rumble match in 1988 and in WCW, he was a one time United States Heavyweight Champion and a one time (and the final) World Television Champion. Duggan grew up in Glen Falls, New York and was a star athlete in high school, he was letterman in football, track, wrestling, and basketball. In wrestling, he won the New York State High School wrestling championship, unlimited weight class division - the first wrestler from Glens Falls to do so. After leaving High School, Ohio State University attempted to recruit him for their football team but he opted to play for Southern Methodist University where he was voted team captain. After obtaining his degree in plant biology he was recruited to NFL team the Atlanta Falcons. Recurring knee injuries meant he was dropped by the Falcons and tried his hand in wrestling thanks to his relationship with Fritz Von Erich who he met during his time with SMU. Making his debut in 1979 as a heel against Gino Hernandez. Training at the Sportatorium in Dallas, Texas as well as with Samoan wrestling promoter Peter Maivia, Duggan gained the attention of Vince McMahon, Sr. and the World Wrestling Federation. After a brief stint with the WWF, Duggan began to work regularly for Georgia Championship Wrestling. During this time, Duggan was known by two in-ring aliases: in the United States as Big Jim Duggan and in Hawaii as The Convict, a masked wrestler. After wrestling for a Birmingham, Alabama-based promotion, Duggan began wrestling in a promotion based in San Antonio, Texas where he adopted his well-known Hacksaw nickname. Duggan would then move onto Mid-South Wrestling / Universal Wrestling Federation and wrestle alongside future WWE legends such as Ted Dibiase, Matt Osborne (The First Doink the Clown) and Junkyard Dog. In 1987 Hacksaw was again signed to the WWF where he made his first major apperance at Wrestlemania III where he interrupted Nikolai Volkoff during his pre-match singing of the Russian National Anthem. He would then feud with him until his first real match at the first ever Survivor Series where in the first match despite being eliminated first for brawling with Harley Race. At the beginning of 1988 he would win the first ever Royal Rumble match. Through out that year Duggan would feud with many foreign villains. Despite success the previous year he would lose at 88 Survivor series. Despite feuds with the likes of Randy Savage and other top billed names his status would decline and he ended up on the under card until 1993 when he left the WWF. 1994 hailed a rise in status when he joined World Championship Wrestling in their mid card division. He picked up and lost some of the lower titles until around 1995 and after 2 years, with having no major PPV matches. In 1998 Duggan was put on hiatus after being diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. He would return later in 1999 after successfully beating cancer, the following year he would find the Television title in a trash can and take it for his own and defend it exclusively on Saturday Nights and remained as champion until WCW was re-booted and nWo storyline was laid to rest. Duggan would then be involved in some major feuds until his departure in 2001. After WWF bought WCW he would go onto wrestle for the emerging TNA but also spend a lot of time of the independent circuit for 2002 - 2005 until he resigned for a 3rd time with WWF now being called WWE. He would appear in various feuds and even appeared in ECW for a short time. In 2009 he would make his last appearance, Duggan made his final televised appearance as Sgt. Slaughter had him come out in place of Bret Hart, due to the episode taking place in Canada, when he introduced The best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be in order to mock the Canadian fans. Duggan would then go back onto the Independent Circuit for a further few years until he was inducted to the WWE hall of fame by Ted DiBiase and assigned to a Legends contract, he would go onto make further apperances that year on Smackdown and and this year appeared in Legends House (which I would recommend, its on the WWE Network for an as yet unknown amount per month)). So thats a brief history of Hacksaw Jim Duggan. A solid wrestler he picked up a few titles along the way. A wrestler who had some major firsts in his career. U-S-A U-S-A!! GothicLamas Enjoy when he met Lana and Rusev. https://youtube/watch?v=VfGwlroghI4
