So, last night my daughter decided to have a Cookie Sale at our house in which she was very fortunate and sold out in 1 hour. She made a total of 36 cookies and sold them at $0.50 a peace. She made a total of $18!!! I decided to use this as an opportunity to teach her about Small Business. Me: Tessa, you did great and your sales skills are amazing, you sold out as you have great friends and supporters. Tessa: I know Dad, that was so fun. Me: Well, did you pay your mom for her services? Tessa: What? Why would I have to pay mom? Me: Well, she made all of the cookies and spent over an hour working on making them. This means you owe her $9 (minimum wage in California). Tessa: Thats a lot. Me: You also own the government their taxes (which at a rate of $18/hour would put her in the 25% bracket). This means you owe $3 to the government. Tessa: WHAT???????? Me: Luckily you did things illegally or you would have had to pay for a permit and business license and that cost a lot and you would have been in the negative. Tessa: This was not worth it! Me: Exactly. I thought it was a good lesson, she was not amused. We let her keep the entire $18 which is now in her piggy bank. Love this girl!!!!
