So, life is full of surprises for me. I went traipsing off to Dr. Jones today, expecting to get some new glasses, with my only concern being whether or not they would have the coolest, latest fashion in designer eyewear in stock. (It is not wise to be too vain about glasses!) I left his office with a pre-op appointment and a schedule for two surgeries....cataracts in both eyes. Keep in mind that about this time last year, Evelyn and I were sitting on the patio at Starbucks in Statesborro when I spotted a woman about ten feet away who had a baby wrapped in a soiled looking, nappy blanket. She was all decked out in a stylish outfit complete with a Coach purse. I told Evelyn that woman ought to be ashamed of having that baby in a nasty blanket while she was all dressed up! Evelyn: What baby? Me: That one right there. (I noticed it was not a pretty baby and on closer inspection, I thought it had either been burned or had a big birthmark.) Evelyn: Thats a dog!!! I didnt believe her, and since the lady was sitting near the trash can, I nonchalantly walked over to the trash can to get a better look. Surprise, surprise. It was a dog! We laughed all the way home. Now any sane person would have gone right away to get their eyes checked. I guess Ive become a procrastinator since retirement. Anyway, according to Dr. Jones, Im legally blind in my right eye, so were doing it first. I thought I was looking through a kaleidoscope all the way home. It was really quite pretty, and if I could have kept from mentally berating myself for driving around for a year blind as a bat, I might have actually enjoyed it. I did make James take me by Krogers for a pumpkin spice latte. One by one, Im experiencing all the maladies of age....just cant bring myself to say old age, and in this case, its TWO instead of ONE. I have this knack for getting more than my fair share of things...the good and the bad! :)
