So no sign of Chris Tomsons van or the perpetrators. However, the insurance will be reviewing his case in 28 days of the van being stolen, and motability are able to provide him with a temporary van, albeit for a six week period only, for which he is extremely grateful. He will be needing a van though which is especially adapted around his specific needs, i.e. one which does not have a cut out in which the wheelchair sits as this means a very bumpy ride, and with severe brittle bone is not ideal. From what I understand, the insurance, once the van is written off, will pay off what the van is worth to motability. However, Chris must then reapply for another van, which is a very lengthy process in itself and means providing evidence again of why he needs the van to be of a certain specification and also having to test and review a whole host of adapted vans to satisfy motability that they are getting the best van for Chris at the most economical price. The point is that when "things" are stolen they can normally be quickly replaced through insurance claims etc. however, when the equipment of a disabled person is stolen it does appear that the process is not as simple and there is a lot of form filling and red tape to get through. I just hope that his van is found, and soon, so he will not have to wait months and months for a vehicle that is suited to his needs. Thanks for reading and please feel free to share.
