So we had the dance party at my house with the Renaissance House Women last night, w/ kids & staff. It started out slowly, eating, watching & listening to an Adele concert on DVD, everybody in their corners, not knowing how to party sober. The normally gregarious ones clammed up. There were mishits when the next DVD skipped and the songs on the IPod dock werent loud enough & I selfishly thought, I can’t have an unsuccessful party; that’s almost unheard of. But much more importantly my heart longed for these women to have a great time & to create memories to build upon, successful sober party memories upon which to rely. I needed & asked for a miracle. And the miracle came in the form of the shyest, most self conscious of them all, who was handed the remote to a hundred music channels on the flat screen. She not only found the music everybody liked, she danced & swayed to each & every selection & w/ grace & style & dignity & rhythm & extraordinary beauty. Who knew?. And you know how you feel responsible when you’re handed the remote & told to find something everybody likes? She did it w/ poise & no sense of burden. She was in her element. She was riding high. It was her party. It was her show. She was the miracle. And then almost all the other women followed suit. I sat back and reveled. It was extraordinary. Tears in the eyes kind of moment. When I got out of the way and offered it up, the universe worked just fine, thank you. smoooooch
