So we win 3-0 and the verdict among the fans is as always split. Some saying we won so theres nothing to moan about, while others chose to focus on the poor 1st half. I can understand the frustration of some fans because at half time I was thinking this is absolute pants, but overall I think it needs to be put into perspective. IMO the reason we were so bad in the 1st half was because Sam reverted to a 4-3-3 (aka 4-5-1) playing Downing out wide to accommodate Nolan in the middle. This also meant Valencia playing wide left and although he has played there its certainly not his best position. Song and Noble both playing holding roles just doesnt work, theres a complete lack of understanding between them which is plain to see in their performances. Our football when we play in that shape is direct and predictable, lots of long balls up to AC to knock down or long balls into the channels for wide players to get on the end of to supply crosses into the box. However Sam to his credit saw that it just wasnt working and reverted to a diamond formation thats served us so well this season and the resulting 45 mins was superb. The fact is we didnt go one up and sit back this time and Sam made the switch and we won 3-0. Was it a perfect performance? No. Am I a very happy Hammer this morning? Absolutely. COYI
