Sofi Cozette Smith, age 10-1/2 years, died at 12:00pm today (August 15, 2014). I rescued her 2-1/2 years ago after she lived with two families and was surrendered to two shelters; she arrived at my house as a scared, broken-hearted foster animal only for me to fall in love with her gentle nature and smart mind causing me to adopt her two days later. At first, Cappuccino, my 13-year-old Australian Shepherd dog, thought if he ignored her she would disappear; six months later Sofi comforted me as I clung to her in tears over the loss of Cappuccino. She blossomed as she assumed the queen-of-the-hill position in my household and proved her maternal instincts when I adopted little Ritz Carlton a year ago. Sofi suffered seizures three months ago and then started to decline from a diagnosed (possible) brain tumor in her cortex weighing on her cerebellum causing loss of mobility and eventually demonstrating to me that her time was at an end this last week. Little Ritz has had to grow up really fast the last three weeks to assume the top-dog role for now. As we light the candle so Sofis soul will remain in our lives and bury our girl; we pray that the love we shared will never die.
