Some excitement to hit my sleepy little burg. Robert Downey Jr. and George Clooney are both in Iqaluit shooting a movie. At first dismissed as a rumour, numerous sightings of Mr. Downey out and about on Iqaluits streets confirm the truth. A rental home on the main avenue in town appears to be the base of operations for the film crew. Lots of trucks and equipment. A private security team is present at all times, justifying their salaries by saying Move along! and No pictures! on occassion. While most of the film crew was dressed appropriately, a few seemed unaware that the Arctic can be cold and a light winter jacket aint going to cut it. We did a brisk bit of business at the store today selling Canada Goose parkas at $600.00 a piece. One teenage girl came into the store looking as if she had a religious experience. She was telling all of her friends how she saw Robert and was maybe only 10 feet away from him. She tried to muster up the courage for an autograph but I couldnt get a word out. Of course, as she repeated her story to others, her self-confidence came back and she was saying, If I had the chance to talk to him, I could have made him my baby daddy. One thing is for sure, if anyone is benefiting from this hoopla it is whomever owns the Frobisher Hotel. At $460 dollars a night for a film crew of this size, they are making out like bandits.
