Some notes from the workshop by Graham Bearman. At the bottom of the mezzanine stairs in the Workshop, nearly opposite the Wash-Up Tub there is now a wooden cupboard with two drawers one of which contains the SIGN-ON BOOK. This should be filled in by EVERYBODY who volunteers on site and includes Contractors, Directors, CEO’s, and heads of Departments. On each day of work one person with some basic computer and clerical work should be selected as Team Leader, and print his/her name on the first available line at the beginning of the day. The first person to sign should leave a space for the date and Team Leader to enter their name. At the end of the day the Team Leader should fill in the JOB section and Hours, on the page as well as the Job number (if known). When the page is full, please place it in the Office upstairs. A Binder file will be supplied shortly to allow permanent records to be kept. Ladies & Gents, I cannot stress how important this is as it supplies lots of information for future years in how much time a job takes and how much it costs in volunteer hours and also what was done. This is not Time and Motion Study that still goes on in Industry (we do not get paid) but most Government grants these days are on a "dollar for dollar" basis which includes the number of volunteer hours spent. We are working towards very detailed record keeping, even the comments made by the Independent Rolling Stock Specialist and the Boiler Inspector. Believe me, these records will play a major part in maintenance down the track and provide the Regulator with their required records. I suppose that most of you would not be aware that our Railway is required to supply annual reports and some of these are based on Mechanical/Rollingstock Records. After use please place the book back in the drawer to avoid water damage from condensation. This book will also be your Confirmation of Attendance.
