Some of the amazing men who made motocross... what it is today... 1) Roger DeCoster - One of the greatest MXers who spread the sport around the world (5x 500cc Champion and 6x MXoN wins). 2) Walter Kaaden - Created the spark for the two-stroke revolution which gave the same power with half the size and weight. 3) Peston Petty - Innovator who made it the standard to use plastic on MX bikes, after getting sick of fixing the metal all the time. 4) Horst Leitner - Innovative Austrian who created ATK in America and the PDS suspension for KTM which was used for 20 years. 5) Mike Goodwin - Rock star promoter who had a vision and created Supercross making it glamorous show it is today. 6) Don & Derek Rickman - Realized they could make their British bikes more competitive by building custom frames. 7) Steve Simons & Mike Mills - Revolutionized the front and rear suspensions which became the standard on all bikes. 8) Alvaro and Vito Vertemati - Two brothers who created engineering master piece called the Vertemati that could beat the big companies. 9) Bob Fox - Created the air damped suspension on his free time to improve his bike. In 1976 he sold 20,000 units. 10) Eyvind Boyesen - Norwegian engineer who worked for NASA that had many inventions, one being the Boyesen Reeds. 11) Mitch Payton - Developed the technique on how to run a racing team including sponsors, color coordination, and many other aspects. 12) Yoshiharu Nakayama - Designed the Yamaha YZF400 that kick started the four-stroke arms race that has dominated MX. 13) Edison Dye - Invented American motocross by importing and promoting the sport to American after seeing it on the Isle of Mann. 14) Andrew Renshaw & Henry Rosenthal - Created a set of alloy handle bars and sparked the creation of Renthal handle bars. 15) Jacky Martens - First racer to make four-strokes competitive against the two-strokes by engineering what was needed. 16) Jean-Michel Bayle - An incredible racing talent who dominated Europe and then came to America... and did the same. 17) Jim Castillo & Dr Chris Leatt - The inventors of the Leatt neck brace that is the standard in all of motorsport. 18) Travis Pastrana - The man who took FMX mainstream, got motocross riding and bikes seen by hundreds of millions of MTV and cinema viewers globally. moto.mpora/news/heroes-independence.html#RDeFxZJPqAwcOxFO.97
