Some of you may have heard about a particularly atrocious blog - TopicsExpress

Some of you may have heard about a particularly atrocious blog post that appeared briefly on the Times of Israel. As a regular ToI blogger, Id like to clarify a few points: Just to clarify a few points. 1) This article was obviously condemnible and abhorrent. No excuses. Unforgivable. Full stop. 2) The Times of Israel operates an open blogging platform. Blogs are not edited/moderated/approved before publication, and literally anyone can write. That means that nutters can slip through the net, and theres certainly a lot of risible content. 3) The editors took this piece down as soon as it was brought to their attention, within an hour or two. They issued a stern rebuke, calling it damnable and ignorant. 4) The writer wasnt even Israeli, but American. 5) Im delighted and encouraged that supporters of the Palestinians have discovered a sense of outrage against incitement to violence and genocide. I hope that when Palestinian state TV broadcasts incitement to a genocide of the Jews, they will exercise similar indignation. Every society has its extremists and racist nutters. The question isnt how extreme they are, or how numerous they are, but how society treats them. God knows Israel has a long way to go if it is going to live up to its lofty ideals, but Im proud that ToI treated this incident as it did -- and Im upset that so many have taken this as an opportunity to make asinine attacks on Israeli society, projecting onto it the iniquities of one evil American teenager.
