Some people are becoming tired of seeing Facebook news feeds containing details, editorials, video etc on the Gaza / Israeli conflict. In the last 24 hours Ive seen two friends status asking for people to stop posting or sharing this type of content. In the last 24 hours, 9 children and 13 women have been killed in this conflict. None are Israeli. This body count does not include disaggregated data of at least 36 bodies contained within rubble of residential structures targeted overnight. 9 children. 13 women. Immeasurable fear, anguish, pain and suffering. The latest UN Status Report also does not yet include data of the fatalities of the UN School that was just bombed more than 3 hours ago. along with 79 other targets shelled overnight. A SCHOOL for heavens sake! Choosing a side is not as simple as backing the cause of one faction or the other. In the Gaza/ Israel zone, we find a well resourced Israeli government who fully control the borders of a tiny occupied state. Its a completely walled in occupied zone 360 square kilometers in size and home to roughly 1,8m people. Thats VERY dense! Its being run by an unpopular regime who accessed power through corrupt means. War crimes are being committed by both sides but thats not the full story. The side Ive chosen is innocent women and children who are being placed in the firing line. It is wrong of Hamas to blatantly continue conflict in the full knowledge that their citizens have no where to escape. They have no where to escape because Israel control the borders. The EgyptIan government control the western line but they do not consider Hamas an official power in Gaza and so refuse to recognise that the border points are official. Where must these families go? Israel continues to bomb civilians who literally can not escape outside of a walled off precinct. They are sitting ducks! Do you suppose one should not voice their disdain about canned lion hunting because the images are too disturbing? Surely not. The side to choose is that of the unarmed, innocent children. Both governments are inhumanely and grotesquely wrong. Children feeding ducks on a roof, or playing soccer on a beach, or wailing and praying and sobbing, petrified, terrified, begging for mercy and forgiveness (for WHAT?) while watching friends and parents being torn to pieces around them - what immediate and present danger to these confused and tormented children present? For them, I will continue to share their - sided stories. Avert your eyes but dont ask me to stop petitioning for their safe passage to a place where they and their mothers are free from tyranny by Hamas and mortal danger and torment by Israel. Sorry, but I weep for these babies.
