Some reflection questions Ive been asking myself: 1. Who are the people, if they died tomorrow, would I regret not having done more for? What concrete actions should I do for them? Will I be the guy in every wake who says I wish I did this for you while you were alive? 2. On the flip side, if I died tomorrow, did my life make a meaningful impact on them? Do they know I love them? Did my life contribute to making them a better version of themselves? Did being in a relationship with me make them better and not worse? Am I leaving behind a legacy that will continue to bless them? Too many times, especially in our fast-paced age, we live for the instant appreciation through likes and shares, instant gratification through shallow inspirations and vicarious living, and we never realize that our lives are not building towards something greater. We go through our existence, spending the limited time, energy, and money we have, on things that wont mean much to us in the future. Asking these reflection questions help me continuously weed out the things I do out of impatience or insecurity that get in the way of the things that really matter to me. If everyone only lives for the moment, and fewer people practice the hard work, the perseverance, and delayed gratification that leads to true success then society will be filled with people with lives that have very little show but a constant looking back at what was and could have been. I could have been a lawyer. I could have been a basketball player. I could have been a better dad or a better mom. I could have been this or that. I could have done that. I was really good. I could have been amazing. But the present, our present, is slipping away, along with the people currently in our face. And the future is coming at us, flying faster than we realize, not stopping for our nostalgic breaks, and smiling on those who have learned to prepare for it. This is why it is good to constantly reflect and make the necessary adjustments. #db
