Someone posted this and honestly I agree 100% Which Comes First, Building A Business Or Personal Relationship? Weve all been taught as part of our marketing training to build relationships right? And I agree to a point. However, Im a huge proponent of using time wisely, as we do not have an abundance of it here on planet earth. So I dont quite agree with going out and just building personal relationships or having people attempt to do the same with me. I mean come on, we all know the motive behind this technique, and that is to convince one to join our team. That is first and foremost on everyones mind when looking for high quality leads. A relationship can be a benefit if the collaboration works out. When the attempt at collaborating doesnt work, 99% of the time youll never hear from that person again. What a huge waste of time! Approaching another marketer with the intent of trying to build a perwsonal relationship with him/her so theyll join you, (#1 motive) IMHO is a bit deceptive dont you think? When someone contacts us and says, “Hey so and so, you look like an approachable friendly person, lets connect and get to know each other better.” Come on, we all know what that means. It means, “I want to convince you Im a good person, a good leader, and supportive, so youll join my team.” I hate playing games! Now dont get me wrong, I believe its important to build a relationship with the people you do ongoing business with. Where I differ is, I also believe both can be established together without wasting time on idle chit chat about each others pets, hobbies, cars, etc. Remember, were looking for business partners, not fishing buddies. So lets get right to the point and establish trustworthiness, work ethics, experience, and so on so we can get down to business, without wasting each others time. We can get to know each other on a more personal level along the way.
