Something thats gone the way of the dodo in the modern tech age: Creativity with music mixes. I used to love making mix tapes for my friends. My way of making those tapes personally and affectionately for a specific person was to try to be creative with my editing. For example, on a cassette I could use that little pause before the final verse in Billy Joels River of Dreams to insert a random line of dialogue from Pulp Fiction, and then after that line, the song could resume at the same place it left off. I could hold my tape recorder up to the TV and record a moment or two of a friends favorite TV show or a line their favorite comedian said, which I could use as the intro to the mix I was creating for them. I could cut it together any way I wanted. Fun...and personal. Now you cant do that anymore. You can make an iTunes playlist or burn a CD for someone but each track has to be in its entirety since its a digital file. And even if you burn someone a CD, theyll probably put the songs on their iPod so they wont necessarily listen to them in the order that you arranged them (which I always put a lot of thought into). Dont get me wrong, I like my i-Pod a lot. But sharing music with other people is less personal now.
