Sorry I havent updated since my trip to Memphis. Mama duty has been calling today, so I havent had a chance until now (bedtime yay!)! So, Molly moved yesterday to the Grizzly House (sponsored by the Memphis Grizzlies basketball team), where she will more thank likely stay for 30 days or less. After that, they will probably be moved to the Ronald McDonald House (sponsored by McDonalds). The Grizzly House is more like a short stay hotel for families. It will be an adjustment, as its not an actual house, but Christy is already doing a great job trying to make it feel like home. Before they moved, they met with TONS of drs, specialists, pharmacists, etc to prepare them for this new lifestyle. Christy is already a pro at administering Mollys meds! Molly is doing great with her buddy (chest port) and even carries her little medicine ball around like its been attached to her forever! Shes adjusting so well. Its amazing how resilient children are. They just seem to adapt to any situation! One major change they are having to adjust to is Mollys low bacteria diet. She cant have food that has been opened or left out for more than an hour. She also has to know where it came from. Rice and tea are definite no-nos bc they contain so much bacteria... Who knew?!? Most snack foods are great as long as they are individually packaged so all the items sent have been wonderful! I asked more about what to expect the next 2.5 years as Molly fights this monster. Heres the way it was explained (I hope I get this right!): There will be 3 phases. Induction, Consolidation and Continuation. The first phase is 7 weeks which is what shes in now. This is going after the cancer as hard as possible to stop it in its tracks! Its possible that she could actually be free of cancer after this phase, but they will do the remaining treatments just to make sure it is all killed and never coming back!! The consolidation phase is 2 months. Its possible she will be back home in Alabama during this phase. She will have to to back to St. Jude for treatments, but she will be home the majority of the time! The 3rd phase is the longest at 2-2.5 years, but the treatments are more spread out and basically just killing anything that could possibly be left. With all this, it basically kills any immune system she has and then slowly builds it back up. I believe they said it was at 2,400 when they got there and is already down to 1,600. When her numbers reach 500 and below, she will wear a mask full time and have to be very careful not to come into contact with any germs or bacteria. This part seems pretty scary, but the drs and nurses assure her this is the way to heal her and that all patients to through this. Shes already doing a great job at masking so I know she will be great when her numbers do fall. I cant say enough about the wonderful drs and nurses taking care of this baby girl. Im telling you, there are children from all over the world at this facility bc its absolutely top notch! Ive never witnessed anything like it before. Im ashamed that it took this happening for me to appreciate St. Judes. They will forever have a special place in my heart now. I hope to be able to donate my time or give back in some way after Molly is all better. I see many more years of making trips to Memphis even when her battle is over. Its a special place and I think everyone should make time to visit at least once in your life. You never know when your child or someone close to you may need them. Thank you for your continued prayers! I know that has sustained this precious family through this journey thus far. Christy and Jaffe have been so uplifted by the prayers, donations and gifts for their girl. There is no way they could thank everyone individually, but please know they really are so thankful. Yall have done a fabulous job and Im just amazed at the outpouring of love for this family that means so much to me! Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago. -Isaiah 25:1 #prayingwiththepaysingers #teammolly
