Sorry for the delay in posting my Theatre Reviews from this weekend....been CRAZY busy!!!! Stay tuned at 9am for the MAJOR reason why!!!!! But here we go! #1 ) MOBY DICK at The Know Theatre of Cincinnati: Can you believe I was an English/Theatre major and NEVER read this classic? True! Well, after seeing this play, I probably dont have to, as they so passionately communicate the novel on stage. Cant say I loved the entire play, but there is PLENTY to rave about, ESPECIALLY the staging (REMARKABLE...youll think youre feeling the sea spray and tasting the salty sea!) and the ensemble perfomance (ESPECIALLY the singing of the numerous sea shantys!!!). This is a show worth seeing! Not sure youll like it? Call them and see if theyre still doing their Welcoming Wednesdays or when they might have some off price tix! #2) AN ILLIAD at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati. WOW, two literary classics on stages in Cincy in the same week, and both are being told in special and unique ways! AND BOY IS THIS ONE SPECIAL!!!!! Cincy fave Bruce Cromer gives a Masters Class on acting AND...well, to put it simply, how to TELL A STORY!!! I would STRONGY suggest any young parents out there to go see this show...you will NEVER tell your kids a story or read them a book the same way again....not if you learn from this pro of the stage! He captures the audiences hearts and minds from his first turn and pivot on stage, and he doesnt let go for the entire 1 hr and 40 minutes...WITHOUT INTERMISSION! His pacing is learned perfection (no doubt honed and managed expertly by another Cincy fave, director Michael Haney!!)! Everythng is working here....lights, set, sound....it all works seamlessly to tell the story of the Trojan War in the most moving and compelling way! Towards the end of the play, Cromer bemoans an excruciatingly heartfelt history of world warfare....almost worth the price of admission all by itself! But trust me, you dont want to miss a second of this show! This one carries the Joe Mock Theatrical Guarantee....if you dont love this play and think it was one of the best youve ever seen, you call me and tell me and Ill pay for your ticket....IT IS THAT GOOD!!!!! More theatre to come this week.....its back to The Know for trueHAIR tonight, the The Know again Tuesday for a double bill of Kev Thornton and OTRimprov!!!!! Color ME happy and color YOU jealous!!!
