Sorting boxes in the basement over the weekend, I came across a load of 78rpm records that I bought from a junk shop in East Ham in the early 80s. They were clearly the collection of someone who really liked 1930s US boogie-woogie piano. There are records by Albert Ammons, Jimmy Yancy, Piano Red, Cow Cow Davenport, Montana Taylor the great Meade Lux Lewis - each one a fine purveyor of the barrelhouse style. Ive always wanted to hear them, but been afraid to play them on my home record player in case they got damaged. Now I find that all the tracks are on Spotify!
