Sortius comments on the just–released ABS report on internet usage—fairly big extract: __________ ABS has released their six-monthly report into Australia’s Internet: Internet Activity, Australia, June 2013. Some interesting data to take away from the report: Total wireless subscriptions (cellular wireless & satellite excluding handset data) rose marginally, while wireless data use decreased by almost 1 petabyte Over 2 million more mobile handsets are in the wild, yet the data use per user has decreased by about 200MB per user Fibre subscriptions are up by 24 000, DSL up by 60 000, Cable (HFC) up by 16 000, Dial-up (still way too high) is down by 55 000 Data use by fixed lines has increased by over 100 petabytes, or 20%. The connection breakdown is: 51% mobile/fixed wireless, 49% fixed line Usage breakdown: 4% wireless (down 1%), 96% fixed line (up 1%) Advertised speeds: 2% on
