South-South APC chieftains press Governor Chibuike Amaechi to contest Presidential election in 2015 The crisis rocking the All Progressive Congress, APC, appears to be deepening, as leading South South members of the party last week made a overtures to Governor Chibuike Amaechi to seek the partys ticket in the foorth-coming election. A source at the Government House Port Harcourt told Scan News that the APC leaders met with Amaechi under the leadership of former Bayelsa Governor, Timipre Sylva. The meeting held behind closed doors. In the delegation were members of the party from the six states of the zone, prominent amongst them is a former Minister of State from Akwa Ibom and a former External Affairs Minister from Edo State. The delegation told the Rivers State Governor that though they support Jonathan being eased out of office, their people are against a northerner or south westerner taking over the Presidency. A leader from Rivers State was said to have told Amaechi pointedly that Vice Presidency was out of the question as they would not be able to campaign in the region. Sources at the meeting said that the general fear of Mohammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu as politicians with little love for Niger Delta is driving the renewed quest to compel Amaechi to contest. The Niger Deltans are worried that Buhari as Petroleum Trust Fund chairman, neglected the entire south project execution, wondering how such a man will change. The South South APC leaders were said to have assured Amaechi of full financial backing in his Presidential bid. The Rivers State Governor asked the regional leaders to give him to consult his associates across the regions before making a decision. Attempts to get the Comments of Amaechis Chief Press Secretary, David Iyofor proved abortive. It is now a challenge to know how Amaechi will handle Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State, having assured him that he will be his running.
