Southbound Loop 101 narrowed Tuesday between Chaparral and McKellips roads in Scottsdale area Southbound Loop 101 will be narrowed to two lanes between Chaparral and McKellips roads in the Scottsdale area from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 30) for pavement repair work. The southbound left two lanes, including the HOV lane, will be closed for the pavement repairs. Drivers are asked to consider alternate routes, including southbound State Route 51, or allow extra travel time along southbound Loop 101. The freeway is being widened as part of a $79 million project along an 11-mile stretch between Shea Boulevard and Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway). The Loop 101 improvement project is adding one new lane in each direction, along with merge lanes between most interchanges, between Shea Boulevard and Loop 202.
