Speaking of old times. When I lived on Louisiana Avenue in the middle 1950s vehicles coming south from the direction of Columbia, MS had to make a right turn to Louisiana Ave then a left turn on Richmond St (I lived just before that left turn and the traffic noise all day and all night was loud) and travel straight through Columbia St (then the center of town) (This was Hwy 3124) and eventually go south toward Covington. There was no bypass then. Those going to the Bogalusa Country Club traveled east down Mississippi Ave and the roads stopped there. When Charles Cassidy became Mayor in the late 50s he had the State build the bypass (Sullivan Drive) that connected Hwy 21 at Louisiana Ave and had a new bridge built. It joined Second St. and eventually was widened all the way through going south. Now that there is so much log truck traffic coming through, the plan is to build another extension at the curve where MLK Drive and Willis Ave meet extending it to just past the SW corner of the Sullivan bypass bridge.
