Srinagar, July 14: Death of Kashmiri youth in Mumbai sparked off protests and clashes in old Srinagar leaving half a dozen persons injured on Sunday. Parvez Ahmad Teli, a resident of Kalamdanpora, Nawab Bazaar, according to family sources had left home for Goa via Mumbai on July 2. Till July 6, Parvez was in Mumbai. Family sources said Parvez was working as a salesman in Bangalore for the past eight years. Soon after Parvez went missing, one of his brothers left for Mumbai to seek his whereabouts. According to local news agency KNS, the family members alleged that there were torture marks on the body of Parvez. Sources said that Parvez and his friends hadbought tickets at Mumbai to move to Goa by bus. However, according to his friends, once they reached the Bus Terminal, Parvez left to buy cigarettes, but did not return. His friendslodged a missing report with Police Station Dicer. His body was found in Mumbai on July 9 near a gate of Boriwali Railway Station. As the news of Parvez’s death spread in Srinagar, hundreds of people in parts of old city took to streets and staged protest demonstrations against his death. The protestors alleged that Parvez was murdered. The protestors attacked Police Station Nowhatta and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp at Fateh Kadal. Protests were also reported from Bohri Kadal and some other parts of old city. To disperse the protestors, the forces burst tear smoke shells and also used pellets. Nawab Bazaar and its adjoining areas observed a complete shutdown. Report said when the body of Parvez reached his home in Kalamdanpora thousands of people were present and werechanting anti-establishment slogans. Speaking to Greater Kashmir, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Abdul Ghani Mir said that he is himself in touch with Mumbai Police. “I am in touch Police Commissioner Mumbai and police station where the incident has taken place. Investigations are being carried out to ascertain the cause of Parvez’s death,” he said. Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani expressed shock and sorrow over the mysterious death of Parvez. He has suspected the hand of communal elements and secret agencies behind the killing. In a statement Geelani said that though people in Kashmir with their unique hospitality greet visitors and Yatris and take due care of them, however, “India in turn sends the dead bodies of our youth.” “This is the 3rd such incident this year when the dead body of a Kashmiri youth killed in mysterious circumstances outside the state was returned,” the statement said. Geelani has urged for inquiry by an impartialorganization. “The family of the deceased had informed police in time and sought theirhelp, however police did not care about it and no effective action in this regard was initiated,” the statement said. Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed serious concernover what he termed cold-blooded murder of Parvez Ahmad Teli. In a statement Mirwaizsaid that APHC has time and again raised alarm that Kashmiri students and traders working outside the state are not safe. He said earlier also Kashmiris traders and students have been murdered under mysterious conditions. “It was the duty of the government to provide security and safety to the traders and students working outside Kashmir,” he said. A protest demonstration was led by senior Hurriyat leader Zaffar Akbar Bhat against the killing of Parvez Ahmed Teli. Zaffar participated in Nimaz-e-Jinaza and demanded impartial probe to bring the killers to justice. A delegation of JKLF led by senior leader Noor Muhammad Kalwal participated in Nimaz-e-Jinaza of Parvez Ahmad Teli. JKLF spokesman in a statement said the delegation also included Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Mushtaq Ahmad Gabroo, Shahid Makaya and Moulana Imtiaz Ahmad Meanwhile, addressing a public gathering atBichoora, Kulgam, chairman Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah, Chairman Muslim Conference Shabir Ahmad Dar, Chairman Islamic Political Party (JK) Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Chairman JKLF (H) Javaid Ahmad Mir, General Secretary Freedom Party Muhammad Abdullah Tari andFreedom Party leader Muhammad Yaseen Ataayi condemned the “brutal killing” of Parvez Ahmad Teli. They said that Kashmiris are not safe in India. They held protest demonstration at Yari Pora Kulgam against the “killing”. Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul expressed his deep sorrow over the sad demise of Parvez Ahmad Teli. Gul expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded probe into the “mysterious” death of Parvez Ahmed Teli. In a statement, PDP chief spokesman NaeemAkthar said the government of Maharashtra should conduct a thorough probe as such incidents result in mounting trust deficit. PDP spokesman also asked the state government to take up the matter with the Maharashtra government to get the matter thoroughly probed. , , ,@bhatjhonty
