StabroekNews 13TH March 2014 WEST DEMERARA UNDER 15 TEAM CLAIMS DUBIOUS RECORD ALL 11 BATSMEN FAILED TO SCORE AS TEAM CRASHED TO 13 ALL OUT Yesterday was definitely a poor day for the youngsters from West Demerara as Georgetown and East Coast emerge victors in the opening round of the Demerara Cricket Board 50 overs under 15 inter-zone competition played at Bourda and Demerara Cricket Club grounds. It was probably the poorest batting display of any recorded Demerara zone’s game and moreover, nationwide, as all of West Demerara wickets fell without any runs being scored by the batsmen against Georgetown bowlers. Thanks to the extras delivered by the 3 Georgetown bowlers utilized, West Demerara score board eventually read 13 all out in 7.5 overs. Replying to Georgetown’s 291-5 in 50 overs, West Demerara would have had to score at approximately 6 runs an over to avoid defeat. The opening fast bowlers of Colin Barlow from top end and left armed Junior Phillips from bottom, with an impressive opening spell, left the West Demerara side in a disastrous position of 5 wickets down without any runs being scored. With abundance of excitement, the fast bowlers delivered a few wayward deliveries that saved their opponent from complete embarrassment. Ashmead Nedd national under 15 left arm orthodox bowler was introduced in the 5th over and he wasted no time in claiming figures of 4-0 to end a miserable day for the players from West Demerara who lost by 278 runs. Earlier when Georgetown batted, aided by poor fielding, Alphius Bookie, batting at number 3 stroked the first century of the competition, his 109 included 12 fours and a maximum, receiving support from number 5 batsman Kurt Lovell (61) and opener Joshua Persaud (35). Bowling for West Demerara, Daneshwar Kowlessar and Retesh Samaroo were the main bowlers with 2-29 and 2-58 respectively. IF THIS DOES NOT ENRAGED US ALL THEN NOTHING ELSE WILL AND WE SHOULD STOP WORRYING ABOUT THE WI SITUATION FOR THE WORST IS YET TO COME. JUST IMAGING THAT A WI DIRECTOR IS INCHARGE OF CRICKET IN THIS AREA!!!!!!! AND HAS BEEN FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS..... AND WE WONDER HOW GUYANA COULD BE PERFORMING SO POORLY WITHOUT OUR 2 STARS WHOSE SELL BY DATE IS FAST APPROACHING IF NOT GONE ALREADY. MAYBE A COURT ORDER CAN REVERSE THE RESULT OF THIS GAME.
