They were between the ages of 18 and 23 years old when they had died, and each of them had died within an 18-month period of each other. As I pondered the grief that this mother must have felt, I felt an overwhelming feeling of gratitude fill my soul, and I felt the words, “Thank you for helping save my boys who died in the civil war.” Filled with emotion, I wrote the names of these boys down. I went to work and began searching for any information I could about them. Within minutes I found their names among thousands who died during the terrible battle of the civil war. “Thank you for helping save my boys,” has rung through my mind many times. What a great privilege each of us has this month in helping save the souls of others and uniting them with their mothers and fathers. Gordon B. Hinckley once said, Just as our Redeemer gave His life as a vicarious sacrifice for all men, and in so doing became our Savior, even so we, in a small measure, when we engage in proxy work in the temple, become as saviors to those on the other side. I invite each of you to reach out in an act of love this month and get involved in Family History. There is something for each of us to do. We are not asking anyone to do everything, but each of us can do something in this sacred work. May the Lord bless you as you “Help save my boys.” Your Friend In Christ, President Lambert
