Standing anchor watch. OK, how many of you are cruising and/or living at anchor? What are your own requirements for when youll stand anchor watch and when youll go to bed and let a GPS alarm/wind alarm/anchor alarm take care of alerting you? Hubby and I stood alternating watches last night from 11pm until...hum...now, Im still on watch while he sleeps but I dont need to be anymore. Our criteria? If the wind is over 20 kts AND it is dark out, we evaluate the need and usually go ahead and stand anchor watch. If the wind is in the teens but gusting into the low 20s, we usually dont. Last night, winds were starting in the high teens with gusts into mid-20s. By 2am, it was staying high 20s with gusts in the low 30s. From 3-3:30 it was low 30s with mid 30s gusts. Fun, fun, fun. What do youall do? If were traveling, sometimes well take off and sail rather than have to stand anchor watch--afterall, were getting somewhere if were sailing and standing watch :)
